Historic Villages of Liverpool Initiative

The history of Liverpool has many stories to tell and none more so than the old and ancient settlements that exist on both sides of the river. Liverpool has justifiably “World Heritage” status but how many tourists to the city clamours to visit the old manor court in West Derby or take in the charm of Woolton village to name but two?

• How many people who live in these villages know what exists on their doorstep?
• How do we engage with the younger generation to ensure they become the next custodians of our heritage?

This initiative seeks to embrace our heritage; a chance for the history societies, special interest groups and proud members of local communities to stand up and be counted

A seminar in February 2012 will start the Historic Villages of Liverpool Initiative with a networking event and where members of groups and societies can discuss ideas to raise the heritage profile of the city. The agenda will be sent out very soon. But now is the time to add this Initiative to your committees agendas and bring to the meeting your ideas. The aim is to connect, support and champion our villages!

If you are involved with or know of a local history or heritage group or society that would like to attend to the Historic Villages of Liverpool event in early 2012 please contact the LCHF at
